Of the more than 200 jewellery lots for sale at Dawson’s (23% buyer’s premium) in Maidenhead on October 26, a 15ct gold double bracelet (below) displaying Victorian engineering ingenuity was among the most contested.
Presented in their original fitted, silk-lined Goldsmith’s Alliance box, and weighty at a combined 62gms (2.2oz), the two bracelets formed of articulated smooth links with bead terminals connect to become an 7in (18cm) necklace.
After heated online bidding from the UK and the US, the pair sold to a London collector for £3500 against an estimate of £1200-1800.
