This bronze sculpture depicting a woman painting with a palette and brush (pictured below) was among the many sales at The Northern Antiques Fair. The cast of La Peinture, c.1880, by French sculptor Jean-Paul Aube (1837-1916) sold from the stand of Sussex dealer Garret & Hurst for a price in the region of £8500 to a new client on the final day of the event.
The buyers, a couple who are both doctors, came to the fair last year for the first time and enjoyed it so much they came back this time around.
The Northern Antiques Fair returned to the Garden Rooms and Cloisters of Tennants auction house in Leyburn, North Yorkshire. Running since 1951, the event was previously held in Harrogate and made its debut at the Garden Rooms last year. Organised by Ingrid Nilson, it welcomed more than 40 dealers and 2100 visitors across the four-day event concluding on October 2.
