Members of the Arran farming community gathered in the Brodick Bar recently to say a fond farewell to industry supplier Mary McGinn, who has retired.
Mary, of Agricultural Central Trading (ACT), was well-known on the island having 38 uninterrupted years of serving Ayrshire and Arran. She is thought to have been the first female farm representative in Scotland, if not the whole of the UK.
Those present were representative of those who subscribed on the island. They gave her a handbag and a cash gift gathered from a number of her customers. She also entertained the guests with an album of old photos of good times in the past mostly after ACT meetings.
