Neville Pollard’s articles on the Harden to Blayney cross-country line in central-western NSW conclude in the May issue of ARH, with his photo of a Tulloch diesel railcar departing Young Station in 1972 as the cover image. The concluding part of Howard Quinlan’s ‘Evolution of Australian Railway Routes’ is also featured. It covers South Australia/Northern Territory, Western Australia and Tasmania, together with the conclusions of a statistical analysis of how individual lines evolved into a national public railway network.
The issue rounds off with Jim Stokes’ short photographic essay of the steps required to separate and turn NSWGR C32 Class locomotives and bogie tenders at termini with 50ft turntables such as Coonamble, while the ‘Explorer’ item updates the April 2004 article on Manning Wardle 1864 locomotive Pioneer.
