This 132 page bookazine celebrates the London buses of today. Supported by a wealth of mainly colour photographs, it looks at the vehicles themselves and how they are operated. Bus technology is at the heart of moves to improve London's air quality, with everything from clean diesel through hybrid electric to full electric and hydrogen fuel-cell power being used to reduce or even eliminate the exhaust gases coming out of the world famous red double- and single-deckers providing everyday transport in the UK capital. We describe the different main types in operation today. Thirty years ago, London Transport operated most of the bus services directly with its own staff and vehicles. Today operators — most of them owned by international groups with businesses in other countries and continents — compete for the right to operate a network designed by Transport for London. We look at how it got from then to now. And we ride on four London bus routes operated by different types of double-decker and point out some of the famous - and not so famous - sights along the way.
