The joy of giving back
Here are four organisations doing amazing work for the planet, people and poverty
There’s no feeling quite like the one of warmth you get from helping others, and charities are a first port of call for showing kindness to those that need it most. Although there are many important causes out there, we have rounded up four that we think are well worth supporting.
British Heart Foundation
You’re probably already familiar with the work of the British Heart Foundation (BHF) who fund research to beat the world’s biggest killers – heart and circulatory diseases. Yet we’re keen to draw attention to their The Big Stitch campaign taking place throughout July. The charity is calling on all fashionistas and creative minds to get crafty and personalise a clothing item they have found in a BHF shop. In other words, the charity is inspiring people to upcycle. Shoppers will be encouraged to post before and after photos of their design work to BHF’s social media with the hashtag #TheBigStitch to be in with a chance of winning some great prizes. With over 550 clothing shops nationwide, the BHF is the UK’s largest charity retailer, making it super easy to get involved and find a store near you. Each year, BHF shops raise around £30 million which goes towards finding out more information about heart disease, diabetes, stroke and vascular dementia. Last year alone, the BHF saved 78,000 tonnes of items from landfill, including 17,000 tonnes of pre-loved clothes.
