Bead & Jewellery Magazine

Issue 142 As we head into summer Kerrie Slade has the perfect project — a beautiful choker adorned with poppies that you can also make shorter to turn it into a cuff style bracelet. The rose garden collar from the last issue proved very popular, and this time there’s a double treat. Lynn Davy shows you how to create a matching cuff and earrings. Lynn says: “Whether you’re a more experienced beader, or just that bit more adventurous, whether you’re looking to match the collar from the last issue or just want the cuff on its own, dive right in and get beading!” We think you’ll love the sparkling bracelet Hortense Thompson has created using RAW in a clever design to give it the look of triangle weave. She told us: “This piece resulted from a number of test pieces I made using the right angle weave technique. I wanted to create a design in which I could easily replace some of the beads and achieve different looks. The pearls on both ends give it a rather luxurious look.” Sarah Austin creates an unusual bead and wire bracelet using seed beads and a knitting spool. The technique might be different to what you’re used to, but the result speaks for itself. The black glass pearls peek through the knitted mesh of the finished bracelet to give an elegant contrast of colour and texture as well as a satisfying weight. Put your wire wrapping skills to the test with Wyatt White in a project which makes the most of German style square wire. Combined with round wire and a dramatic Swarovski Elements stone you can create a stunning ring. Jill Devon’s pretty charm bracelet is a great chance to learn some easy beadwork and at the same time to utilise your favourite feature beads - or all those gorgeous crystals you just couldn’t resist! The buds (which are beaded beads) also serve a very useful purpose in hiding the knots and threadsused to attach the charms. But whatever project you decide to start with we’re sure you’ll enjoy the issue.
