They stare incredulously, eyebrows raised, mouths open, hands stretched forward, pleading. Eventually they speak, almost in unison, their words utterly predictable: ‘Seriously, you’ve really never, ever seen that movie?’ Change two key words in that sentence and the same disbelief might be uttered about a book or piece of music they claim everyone must know – except, of course, you don’t.
