WINDOWS & DOORS
Choosing windows is a critical decision on any project. Not only do they need to look the part, but they must also support your goals for the performance of your home (and not just from an energy efficiency perspective). We selected Kloeber (kloeber. co.uk) to supply and install our double-glazed timber windows and French doors, which achieve a U-value of 1.3 W/m2 K, as well as providing the FunkyFront door (timber with a steel core) for our contractor to install – and we’re delighted with them. In particular, the finish on the windows is still pristine; we’ve not had to repaint anything yet. “On average in the UK we’d expect it to be at least five years before you need to do anything to a factory-painted window,” says Kloeber’s Matt Higgs. We chose a green-grey finish for the frames, which we’d do again, as it adds a bit of warmth compared to standard options like anthracite.
