Contemporary levelling
This modern new build home by London-based Belsize Architects is located within the beautiful Hampstead Heath Fringes Conservation Area. Planning permission was granted to knock down the existing house on the land and double it in size. The design needed to respect the volume and height of the adjacent properties, and so a sunken courtyard has been incorporated, which floods the lower level with ample sunshine. It also helps to maximise the available living space. This defining characteristic is functional while also making a striking architectural statement for the new home.
The scheme offers some distinction in a street where the houses are mostly uniform in style. The many floorto- ceiling glazed doors and windows allow the owners to gaze out onto the vast open space of a nearby golf course, whilst also benefitting from ample natural light. The interiors boast an open-plan layout giving a modern feel throughout, with a neutral colour palette.
