LONG-DISTANCE walking routes are often based on ancient tracks or drove roads and have survived for many millenniums.
Sometimes a series of tracks are joined. Hence the West Highland Way combines old coaching and military roads with drovers’ routes.
Either way, once the track is on a map, it becomes a challenge. For this reason, and despite its current financial worries, the Kintyre Way should survive as it is on all Ordnance Survey maps.
