TODAY, February 16, marks the start of the Chinese New Year, and Drumlemble Primary School’s prefive unit has been celebrating.
To commemorate the beginning of the Year of the Dog, which is said to be lucky, the youngsters have been learning about Chinese culture and how people celebrate Chinese New Year. They have mastered how to say ‘Kung hei fat choy’ which means ‘congratulations and be prosperous’ in Chinese and is said at New Year, as well as copying Chinese writing and making lucky red money envelopes.
The children have also been tucking into East Asian cuisine, enjoying a chicken stir fry they prepared, served with prawn crackers. The children were all keen to try the stir fry and some had second helpings.
