Pet Shop Boys have renewed their collaborative links with one of pop’s brightest young stars. The duo are working on new material with Olly Alexander from Years & Years, who they first teamed up with in 2017. Back then Olly revealed: “I wrote a song with the Pet Shop Boys. It’s inspired by a fairground in Margate called Dreamland.”
Pet Shop Boys have also written a new(ish) stage show for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. MUSIK runs from 5-24 August at the Assembly Rooms’ Bijou venue, starring Frances Barber as retired rock star Billie Trix – a role she first played 18 years ago in Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe’s West End musical, Closer To Heaven. The duo said: “For many years we have all discussed the idea of creating her own one-woman show, which would give us the chance to write more songs for her as she looks back on her incredible career. We’re thrilled that this show is finally happening.” Jonathan Harvey has written the script, while six songs by Tennant and Lowe – including four new ones penned specially for this show – will feature.
