Although Pet Shop Boys are reconciled to their own non-appearance in the singles chart nowadays, they are concerned about its increasing irrelevance.
“Do kids take any notice of the singles chart now?” wonders Neil Tennant. “I don’t know that they do.” Chris Lowe adds: “I noticed the other day that As It Was is still in the Top 20.” Neil: “It’s a huge hit.” Chris: “Yeah, but it’s an old huge hit. That’s what annoys me about the singles chart. It’s why I no longer look at it, because it’s the same old stuff. Years ago, the album chart was always the same, with Dark Side Of The Moon always there. Now it’s flipped, so it’s the singles chart that always has the same records.”
