“The most controversial thing I’ve ever done is to stick around,” announces Madonna at the start of this live album recorded at Lisbon’s opulent 19th century 4,300-capacity theatre Coliseu Dos Recreios shortly before lockdown in 2020.
It’s a statement given extra intent ahead of her hits tour Celebration belatedly starting in London in October, following a hospital stay in June. This is the second consecutive tour to be affected by Madonna’s health, after her Madame X live residencies were overshadowed by numerous cancellations resulting from a knee injury.
