David McElroy is an obsessive collector of Depeche Mode vinyl, CDs and cassettes – he likes the music and he has masses of it. The co-author of recent book, Halo: The Story Behind Depeche Mode’s Classic Album Violator, the 48-year-old also runs the Depeche Modeheavy blog, Almost Predictable Almost, and first fell in love with the band when he heard Enjoy The Silence in 1990 on the radio in his parents’ car, on a day when he was too lazy to walk to school. “The first thing that jumped out at me was the distinctive drum sound,” says David. ‘It caught my ear – and then the melody just hit me. I’d never heard anything that sounded like that before.”
