C lay pigeon shooting is a sport for all. According to statistics there are roughly 500,000 Shotgun Certificate holders in the UK and roughly 150,000 of those people regularly subject themselves to various levels of frustration and the occasional bit of ridicule at the clay shooting ground. It is currently a male dominated pastime with 94% of gun owners being men – though in recent times more women are getting involved, encouraged by organisations such as Femmes Fatales and The Shotgun and Chelsea Bun Club.
If you like doing things outdoors, clay pigeon shooting may appeal because you don’t have to buy special shoes, show your bare legs, share a changing room, or run around a grass pitch with a high risk of personal injury. Best of all you can smoke or vape whilst doing it and often get to go to the pub afterwards and drink alcohol which is the recommended way round, rather than before or during the event, though the occasional sip from a hip flask on a bitterly cold day can pass as being acceptable.
