BEAUTY AND RICH TAPESTRY
And welcome to another packed issue of Climber.
We have an article on one of my personal favourites, Ramshaw Rocks in Staffordshire. Home to many fi ne routes right across the grade spectrum, for instance, an absolute cracker of a V Diff called Boomerang and one of the best V Diffs on grit – plus a plethora of jamming cracks and I love jamming so it’s easy to see why I like it. Someone who had a big hand in developing some of the harder routes in that area was Simon Nadin. He’s now located in the far north of Scotland and is busy developing some of the big sea cliffs up there. He’s now spilled the beans and has written and photographed (he’s handy with a camera too) a great article on Caithness sea cliffs and, as he says, ‘situated amongst some of the most spectacular coastal scenery in the UK’.
Heading back to the stunning Yorkshire Dales, the easy climbing feature is the small but perfectly formed Twistleton Scars, another crag I have fond memories of and again in an area of outstanding beauty – there’s a theme here. And it is continued with a trip over to the mountains of Oman in the Middle East for Gareth Leah’s story of determination and exploration in the quest to climb a big new route.
