Craft Stamper  |  Craft Stamper - July 2011
Hello! Welcome to the first of our ‘special’ themed editions of Craft Stamper magazine! This issue has an Altered Books theme, with three fabulous projects (plus an awesome bonus online project) transforming old, unloved books into beautiful and useful things!
Now, I know that some readers have issue with cutting up books to use in their artwork and I do have some sympathy in this viewpoint: holding a degree in English I have a certain affection for books myself. I find one way to alleviate any guilt is to rummage in the 50p box at my local charity shop - in there will be books that are either damaged or just so unpopular they can’t sell them. If no-one buys these books they are destined for pulping anyway, so what is wrong with recycling them in a different way? See it not as destroying a book but as rescuing it from certain fate and transforming it into something which can be loved and admired. Failing that choose a book by an author you think is the absolute pits and think of it as saving some poor soul from suffering their dreadful writing!
If you really, really don’t like altered book projects then don#t worry - there are still oodles of other projects to enjoy including: loads of fabulous techniques for Tim Holtz Tissue Tape (p.42); clever ideas using ordinary household stationery items (p.62); recycled packaging ideas (p.8); Sheena Douglass’ fabby Paint Fusion (p.30) and gorgeous resist paste techniques (p.46). Enjoy!
