LETTER FROM
Well, here we are again, almost at the end of another series of Doctor Who – and what a series it’s been! Now, there’s a possibility, I’m told, that you might be reading this knowing the identity of the Thirteenth Doctor. Which would be rather exciting! (If there hasn’t been any announcement yet, don’t blame me. I’m stuck in another time-zone from you, and I don’t actually know anything.)
But still. Thirteenth Doctor! There were only eight of them when I first started on this magazine. I do sometimes wonder what the fans of the pre-announcement world of 2003 would make of all this, if we could somehow go back and tell them of everything that was to come. That Doctor Who would return to TV, and become a massive worldwide hit, running for year after year after year, just like it did the first time round. Along the way, the series would bring back not only the likes of the Daleks, the Cybermen, the Sontarans and the Ice Warriors, but also the Macra, the Movellans, the Sisterhood of Karn and Alpha Centauri! Sarah Jane and K9 would also return and get their own TV series. Which, in turn, would see guest appearances from the Brigadier and Jo Grant. There’d be another spin-off show set in Coal Hill School. Paul McGann would return as the Eighth Doctor, before regenerating into John Hurt! Amazing actors like Derek Jacobi, John Simm and Michelle Gomez would take on the role of the Master – and in 2017, the last of those two would team up together, with the Tenth Planet Cybermen!
