Davros (Terry Molloy) examines the damage inflicted by the Movellan virus in Resurrection of the Daleks (1984).

One of the selling points of Doctor Who novelisations has always been the opportunity they present to expand on a story’s original details. There’s long been a feeling that Resurrection of the Daleks (1984) would benefit from this more than most. One criticism of Eric Saward’s script is that it’s a collection of plots in search of a story. Coming back to it as a novelist three and a half decades later, Saward has seized his chance. And he’s done so in such an idiosyncratic way that reading the book is just as worthwhile as rewatching the original episodes.
