I first met Terrance Dicks nearly 30 years ago. We made all the arrangements by letter (this was before the internet), but when I arrived on his doorstep he seemed surprised to see me. He’d completely forgotten about the interview, but graciously interrupted his daily writing routine to give me an hour of his time. It didn’t take long for him to warm up, although I remember receiving a quick-tempered response to one particular question. “Was there any other way to bring everyone together for The Five Doctors?” I asked him. “It was hard enough coming up with that one!” he replied.
