THE DWM INTERVIEW

Life of Ryan

“Spyfall’s a big bang, isn’t it?!” declares Tosin Cole. “A very special two-parter with a cliffhanger, which is exciting because everything was standalone in Series 11.” Tosin, who plays Ryan Sinclair, was particularly impressed by Spyfall’s homage to James Bond. “The whole spy theme is very cool,” he says with a big grin on his face. “It’s always fun dressing up in suits, having gadgets and sneaking around. Obviously, I take my job seriously. But not too seriously.

“Those first two episodes were really big,” Tosin says, recalling the location shoot. “We started the first recording block with an exciting trip to South Africa. That was amazing. I was like, ‘Yes! We get to go back.’ The first time we went [to record the Series 11 episodes The Ghost

Monument and Rosa] I was a bit sick. I think I had sunstroke or heatstroke, something like that. Anyway, this time I was like: ‘Take my vitamins, be prepared, hit the town.’ I really enjoyed it. And it was really cool because Lenny Henry was in that block. I was thinking, ‘Big name, man.’ And we had Stephen Fry. British legends! Having them involved set the bar high.”
