Over the coming decade almost 10 million service personnel records will be transferred from the Ministry of Defence (MOD) to The National Archives (TNA). They cover service in the British Army, Royal Navy and Royal Air Force, and largely encompass the period 1921 to the end of the Second World War.
Currently the post-World War I service records held at the MOD are only accessible on completion of an order form and payment of a £30 fee. Delays, particularly in the aftermath of Covid, have been experienced by many customers. The digitisation project being undertaken by Ancestry will transform the experiences of the researcher, enabling them to view and study post-1921 service records quickly and easily online.
