The brand new December issue of FlyPast features a special section reflecting on the attack on Pearl Harbor. We remember the ‘day of infamy’ – December 7, 1941 – when Japan attacked the US fleet, triggering America’s entry into World War Two. Alan Zimm examines Japanese tactics during the strike, including new information that has only recently come to light, while James Busha profiles the pilot who shot down Admiral Yamamoto’s aircraft.

ZERO AIRBORNE
Continuing the Pacific theme, we go flying in the US with the Flying Heritage Collection’s Mitsubishi A6M3 Zero, with exclusive air-to-air images by John Dibbs.

TEMPEST SPOTLIGHT
Our in-depth Spotlight section focuses on the Hawker Tempest, the fastest propeller-driven fighter of World War Two. We include exclusive artwork, rarely seen images and accounts of Tempest pilots in wartime action.

AIRSHOW
Stefan Schmoll reports from a gathering of historic types at Hahnweide, Germany.

SWIFT RESTORATION
Darren Harbar visits Jet Art Aviation, the UK’s jet restoration specialists, who are working on a remarkable Supermarine Swift project.

BBMF SPITFIRE
Sqn Ldr Clive Rowley recounts the story behind the new colours worn by Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Spitfire PS915.

We also pay a visit to the longstanding Dumfries & Galloway Aviation Museum in Scotland, and look back on how Vought Corsairs provided vital air support for the US Marine Corps in Korea. Tony Clay explains how Vietnam veteran Phantoms found their way to Britain and a new lease of life with 74 ‘Tiger’ Squadron, and we present a portfolio of images showing the Bristol 170 Freighter. Plus news of first flights by a Hurricane, Mosquito and Starfighter.

Digital subscription for Flypast magazine

I have purchased the Flypast magazine for many years and generally as a hard copy. However, for the last couple of years l have subscribed annually to the digital version and now read on my iPad.
The magazine is great and I always find the content interesting and varied and never bored with the topics covered. Whilst previously enjoying the hard copy l am now a devoted digital subscriber and would recommend this version. On the downside you miss out on add ons such as calendars etc.
