The brand new December issue of FlyPast features a special section on the Royal Navy’s Fleet Air Arm. With Supermarine Spitfire Mk.XV PR503 on the cover, we look at the history of this naval fighter which now flies in the US, and is the only airworthy Mk.XV in the world. We also reflect on some of the Fleet Air Arm’s actions in World War Two, including its campaign against the German warship ‘Tirpitz’.

HARRIER SPOTLIGHT
We conclude our series of Spotlight features with an in-depth look at the Hawker Siddeley Harrier, Britain’s famous ‘jump jet’.

HURRICANE RETURNS
Photographer and writer Darren Harbar goes air-to-air with an earlier Hawker classic, a recently restored Hurricane.

STUKA ARCHIVE
A gallery of rarely seen images of the Luftwaffe’s much feared Junkers Ju 87 is presented by historian Chris Goss.

VIETNAM PHANTOMS
Bill Cahill profiles the vital work of photo-recce Phantoms in the dangerous skies of Vietnam.

DROPPING THE BOMB
Simon Vaughan recalls an interview with Vickers Valiant pilot Gp Capt Kenneth Hubbard, the man who dropped Britain’s first H-bomb.

We also follow the movements of a de Havilland Mosquito that has been transported from the Yorkshire Air Museum to a new home at East Kirkby in Lincolnshire, while Andrew Thomas reflects on the history of an RCAF squadron. We also present the concluding part of Steve Grivno’s feature about a wartime Consolidated Privateer crew, and bring you news of an Avro Lancaster that has changed hands in Canada.

Digital subscription for Flypast magazine

I have purchased the Flypast magazine for many years and generally as a hard copy. However, for the last couple of years l have subscribed annually to the digital version and now read on my iPad.
The magazine is great and I always find the content interesting and varied and never bored with the topics covered. Whilst previously enjoying the hard copy l am now a devoted digital subscriber and would recommend this version. On the downside you miss out on add ons such as calendars etc.
