The bumper 132-page September issue of FlyPast features a special section dedicated to the men and machines of the Cold War. We present several features reflecting on this tense and unpredictable era, including a look at a Convair B-36 Peacemaker that was lost with an atomic bomb on board. We also speak to Mike Beer about his time as an Air Electronics Officer on Handley Page Victors, and visit the team that looks after Avro Vulcan XL426 in its new hangar at Southend.

Sea Fury Spotlight
Our in-depth Spotlight section focuses on the Hawker Sea Fury, a mostly carrier-based fighter and ground attack aircraft that served the Royal Navy’s Fleet Air Arm well in Korea. We include exclusive artwork, rarely seen images and pilot memories.

Flying Legends
Steve Beebee reports from July’s two-day warbird spectacular at Duxford.

Lancaster’s flying colours
Sqn Ldr Clive Rowley tells the story behind the choice of colours worn by the RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight’s Avro Lancaster.

Mosquito bomber
The ‘honour’ of dropping the last bombs on Berlin went to a 109 Squadron Mosquito crew. Richard Stowers explains.

Mustang Express
We profile North American P-51B Mustang Berlin Express which recently flew to Britain from the US.

We also detail the incredible wartime career of Grumman Hellcat ace Hamilton ‘Mac’ McWhorter, and describe the dogged resistance of the Polish Air Force when its nation was invaded by German forces in 1939. We also include a visit to Hawker Restorations at their new workshop, highlight the campaign to commemorate Carnaby airfield, and bring you news of a Canadian Spitfire’s first post-restoration flight.

Digital subscription for Flypast magazine

I have purchased the Flypast magazine for many years and generally as a hard copy. However, for the last couple of years l have subscribed annually to the digital version and now read on my iPad.
The magazine is great and I always find the content interesting and varied and never bored with the topics covered. Whilst previously enjoying the hard copy l am now a devoted digital subscriber and would recommend this version. On the downside you miss out on add ons such as calendars etc.
