Ex Trafalgar is a biannual cultural and educational trip to London which provides recruits in Hunter Coy the opportunity to visit and learn from sites of historical and military importance as well as provide a much needed morale boost away from the rigours of rehabilitation and training. Throughout the visit, we had the freedom to explore London, which was exciting as many of us have never stepped foot in the capital before.
The Imperial War Museum allowed us insight and understanding into modern warfare and the experiences of those involved from the First World War until the present day. Each of the six floors explored several different niches of warfare from The Troubles in Ireland, its history and causes to the effects and real life consequences of a CBRN conflict. One exhibition showed us how the Nazi party won over the German people in the 1930s and led into the brutality of the regime on those deemed undesirable. We felt that of particular importance were the courageous deeds and actions recorded and displayed alongside the medals and honours awarded of those that came before us, giving us a poignant insight into the realities of war.
