One of the most spectacular astronomical events is occurring at the beginning of April, and some of us will be able to view it in its glorious totality from our own backyard. A total solar eclipse is a rare and fleeting thing indeed, and can occur on Earth because of some very specific conditions that mean we’re in a window of time when the Moon can completely cover the Sun in its passage across the sky.
