There are many file attributes, such as the name, size, kind and dates created and last modified. Included in file attributes is a system of permissions and ownership, user names and privileges. They can be useful and limit what other people can access or change on the disk, but sometimes they can get in the way. Here we look at permissions. We show you the problems you might encounter and how to solve them. Also, we look at how to lock unauthorised people out of folders and files. Permissions problems often occur when more than one person uses a Mac and with shared files, or if you access files over a network at home or work.
