Christmas is coming the turkey’s getting fat
by Rachel Gillon
While most prefer to leave thoughts of planning for the big day until later in the year, down on the farm, it’s a different story for the country’s turkey farmers.
WITH just over three weeks to go, and the usual frenzy of Christmas shopping well underway, the big question being mulled over is what to have for Christmas dinner. And while the well liked goose is getting fat, turkey gets the nation’s vote when it comes to the traditional Christmas dinner.
With an estimated 10 million turkeys eaten every year in the UK over the festive period, this means 76 per cent of British families will serve up turkey as the centre piece of their Christmas meal. Of course the supermarkets will dominate the market with groaning shelves of turkeys to suit every lifestyle and budget.
