One of my fondest memories is attending a performance of Handel’s Firework Music at Regents Park in London many years ago. It was an astonishing feast for the eyes and ears and the spectacle has stayed with me ever since.
But here’s another memory - watching an injured horse laying on the road being put down after bolting through a fence into the path of traffic, terrified by a firework set off in a garden nearby. Or trying to explain to my old pensioner friend dealing with dementia, that it’s “just a firework” as she weeps & squeals in fright every time a rocket explodes over her house.
