Jaguar World  |  X308 XJ January 2010
On reading this issue’s lead news story (see page six) and specifi cally the list of some of the ‘milestone cars’ that have worn the Jaguar name in the last 75 years – and, yes, we know it’s not a defi nitive list, we didn’t have room for that! – it still amazed me just how many interesting cars Jaguar has built, even though we write about them every month.
It would be fascinating to know exactly how many examples of each model built still survive today but, sadly, despite the eff orts of the numerous model registers out there getting a defi nitive answer for even one model is nigh-on an impossible task. Even so, interesting examples of early cars are always coming to light (and a good job too otherwise you might be reading a far thinner magazine), and one such example is in this issue; Brian Johnson’s 1973 Series 3 E-type. Brian has owned the E-type from new, and to date it has covered just under 10,000 miles. Think about it for a moment and you’ll soon work out that equates to an annual mileage of just 275, which isn’t a lot in anyone’s book. There are plenty of athletes out there who’ll run further than that in a month! Bar some non-standard door speakers the car is original too – which means it’s that rare thing of being original, unrestored and in good order.
