LINUX FOCUSED
Keith Edmunds is MD of Tiger Computing, which provides support for businesses using Linux.
"This column will be my last in these pages – for now, at least. For the past five years, I have written here about using Linux in business. My core message has been that we should design, build and maintain Linux systems that are secure and available. That focus shouldn’t change just because I’m no longer writing about it, of course. Those three words – “secure and available” – sum up what pretty much every business wants from its Linux servers. I’m extremely proud to be part of the open source revolution – and you should be, too. Back when I started working in IT, there was no such thing. The idea of legally sharing software without any charge was completely unheard of. Since then, open source has taken the world by storm. Linux is the most widely used operating system on both this planet and Mars, and that shows no sign of changing any time soon. Let’s keep innovating, refining and sharing. Let’s show the world that open source means more than just zero-cost software. And let’s have fun doing it! Thank you for reading. I’m always happy to hear from readers – you can email me on kae@tigercomputing.co.uk."
