MANCHESTER, ENGLAND
Manchester, not London, was the 19th-century birthplace of vegetarianism in Britain and in the 21st century it’s proving to be a cornucopia for vegans too. The Northern Vegan Festival returns this April with 200 stalls selling everything from seitan steaks (pictured top) to vegan candles, plus cookery demos and other events. For a smart dinner date after the festival, stop by the Allotment Vegan Restaurant in Stockport for its seven- or 10-course tasting menus using seasonal produce (pictured above).
