CREATE YOUR FIRST PODCAST
You’ve got the kit and a killer idea. Let’s podcast!
Our best piece
of podcasting advice is to listen to lots of other people’s podcasts. As you listen, you’ll soon develop a good understanding of what works and what doesn’t, what makes you want to hear more and what makes you skip to something else.
That’s particularly important if you’re going to make podcasts featuring multiple people, because if they’re unplanned they can easily become uninteresting and overlong. Many people stop listening to a podcast because the introductory banter between the hosts goes on for too long, and has nothing to do with what the episode was supposed to be about.
That takes us to our second bit of important advice: plan your podcast and keep an eye on the clock. That doesn’t mean you need to script it, although some podcasters do exactly that. But it’s wise to come up with a rough structure and note any key points you or your guests want to get across, so you know what the beginning, middle and end of your podcast will be. What is your goal with this particular episode? What will your listeners want to know or experience? What will have them coming back for more?
