AMD is having more problems with its 7000X3D-series chips. Chips have been fried after being tweaked with AMD’s EXPO, aka Extended Profiles for Overclocking, which AMD does endorse. This can also trigger higher voltages for the processor, aging the chip to the point of failure. After testing by independent bodies, it seems there’s more: motherboards are not detecting thermal problems properly, and it’s possible for a board’s over-current protection to keep feeding power to a dying or dead chip, destroying the motherboard. Problems like this produce a lot of internet chatter, even if the failure rate remains small. At least AMD will replace fried chips.
