Port St. Lucie, Florida—Seddique Mateen, the father of the gunman who killed 49 people at a gay club in Orlando, grabs a photojournalist’s lens outside his home on June 14. He has repeatedly said he does not know why his son, Omar Mateen, carried out the massacre and apologized for the attack, but he also said in a Facebook video, “God himself will punish those involved in homosexuality.” After it emerged that the gunman had been on a terrorist watch list, Democrats brought a bill to the Senate to stop people on such lists from buying guns, one of four proposed gun control measures before that chamber.
