More Roamerisms from the early 1990s
• Isn’t the chaos at our ‘spaghetti junction’ getting pasta joke? Even locals are flummoxed as to how to negotiate the gravelly twists and turns and chicanes outside the Alex and the Belford. As for Fassifern Road? Well, honestly! I bet they didn’t have the same hassleft when it was constructed 150 years ago. That was during the ‘Hungry Forties’ to provide work for locals of that era. And the nasty bend at the bottom end was intentional – as there had to be a diversion of the road past the officers’ Gardens prior to it joining up with the main highway. But, of course, in those days and for a century and more afterwards, the traff c didn’t havefito contend with a spaghetti junction prior to reaching the main road.
