WE ASKED readers on Facebook if the A816 needs crash barriers. There was an unequivocal afifrmative response, especially given the tragedy that occurred near Kilmelford in July when two toddlers died Pat Trehan posted: ‘Yes. It’s a dangerous road, even when one is driving at reasonable speed to suit the conditions. It needs more policing too, or speed limits enforced by cameras – something to slow down the people who think 60 is too slow and need to pass, safely or not!’
Willie Reid agreed: ‘Along the wee loch where the kids were drowned yes. There’s a lot of black ice around there in winter. My wife spun our Subaru around there years back.’
Allan Strang Jnr wrote: ‘Yeah. Being a local in Melfort using that road Daily. Definitely need barriers. Unfortunately too late for some. Why there was never one in the first place we’ll never know.’
