This photograph was sent in by Iain MacLeod from Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada, who said: ‘I inherited a collection of photos taken by my grandfather, Alec MacLeod. He was born in Lewis, grew up in Inverness and made his home in Glasgow after the First World War. My grandfather kept a camera nearby for the better part of 60 years, starting in the early 1900s, right up to the late 1960s. He even took a camera into the trenches of the eastern front of the First World War. This one of my favourites, featuring my grandparents on a vacation. I did not know the location until the other day – Oban, July 1927.’
