In this issue we ask the question in our news section why are the Science Museum selling off some of our historic agricultural relics without any public consolation over the matter? More concerns are expressed over increased trailer thefts. Hugh Dougherty looks at the tragic petrol station explosion in Cresslough, County Donegal, which saw 10 local people lose their lives on Friday 7 October, which has revived memories of the of the Owencarrow Viaduct disaster on Friday 30 January 1925.
Dave Vaughan went to see Austin Hawkins one of our younger steam roller restorers and tells an in-depth story of how Austin got Aveling & Porter E-type steam roller Lionheart back together
We look at a number of Christmas goodies on the book market that have just been released including one on the famous travelling showman Joseph Brewer from Cornwall and his steam engines and rides.
With Christmas on everyone’s mind Mike Neale looks at the lasted diecast models which will make great presents. In our letters section we look at a number of unidentified road steam pictures and the editor asks can you tell us more about these engines.
Moving to our 2022 events we head to Swanage for their Road and Rail event in June and David Reed travels to Kelsall for their big steam rally. Lastly we head south for the Chalk Valley History Festival near Salisbury.
For the miniature fan David Reed is at Cromford, Derbyshire and back at Kelsall to report on all that was there. Talking more about miniature steam David Reed heads to South Shields for the 50th anniversary of this 9.5in miniature railway run by mostly under 25s.
Further in the magazines pages the steam ploughing scene is closely scrutinised in our part one of what engines were out and about this year.
Turning to internal combustion the 100thanniversary of the Austin Seven and its light commercial vehicles comes under Zach Stiling’s microscope. There is certainly plenty to read in December’s edition of Old Glory.
