aveat emptor, the Romans said: buyer beware. The phrase may be two millennia old, but the buyer’s obligation to apply due diligence before making a purchase – whether it be of a second-hand car or a new house – still applies today.
It’s also true when choosing a new operating system. Whichever you settle for, you’ll spend hours using it, perhaps for the next few years. You’ll expect it to work flawlessly when managing your data, and probably trust it with irreplaceable personal files, such as emails and photos. It’s fortunate, then, that in almost every case, you can try before you buy.
