Artist and creative talent behind Bloomsbury Revisited, Jane McCall handpaints beautiful lampshades and lamp bases that capture the bohemian spirit and vibrant aesthetic of the Bloomsbury Group. Celebrated for their freedom of expression, loose painterly style and vivid use of colour, the Bloomsbury artists have provided Jane with an endless source of inspiration over the years - whether it be works on canvas by Vanessa Bell and Duncan Grant or throughout architectural settings such as Charleston house, home to the aforementioned artists and a group meeting place. ‘They turned art upside down,’ says Jane of the group’s appeal. ‘They painted everything and showed us that art doesn’t have to hang on a wall in a frame.’ Jane started her creative journey as a potter, selling regularly through the Charleston shop, but has more recently diversified into lighting. When friend Jane Howard attended one of her lampshade-painting courses in 2019, the pair had the idea to create lampshades to sell and Bloomsbury Revisited was born. Using paints all mixed by hand and Bloomsbury-loaded brushstrokes, Jane brings the style into the 21st century, drawing on home life and the natural world to conjure fresh, playful motifs from peapods to elegant muses, and even her lurcher, Bill.
