The natural perspective delivered by a 35mm prime on a full-frame camera, combined with a fast f/1.8 aperture rating and highly effective 5-stop stabilization, make the RF 35mm a superb lens for walkabout shooting. Handling, performance and outright image quality are simply superb, and the lens also works brilliantly well as a ‘standard’ prime on APS-C format EOS R system cameras, with an effective 56mm focal length. It even takes extreme close-ups in its stride with the bonus of 0.5x macro magnification. The 7Artisans 50mm f/1.05 is a great manual ‘nifty fifty’ with a superfast aperture, while the Canon RF 16mm proves you can shoehorn a hugely wide viewing angle into a really compact construction.
