The Canon EOS R5’s electronic viewfinder (EVF) is 5.76 million dot 120fps with 100% coverage, and the rear LCD is a 3.2in 2.1 million dot vari-angle touchscreen
The EOS R5 has a spec sheet to drool over, starting with a 45-megapixel full-frame sensor – that Canon says is its highest resolving sensor due to its new low-pass filter design – even better even than the EOS 5DS/R DSLRs. It’s called the R5 and will handle like an EOS 5-series camera, so gets a top-plate LCD, however it does not replace the EOS 5D Mark IV – it sits alongside it – nor does it replace the EOS R, it will sit above it on top of the family tree.
Both the R5 and R6 can capture images at 20fps with the electronic shutter, and still shoot at 12fps via the mechanical shutter – impressive for the 45Mp R5. Both cameras also have a new Dual Pixel CMOS AF II, with the same deep learning AF programming as the EOS-1D X Mk III, plus new Animal AF tracking. This is very clever tech and gives you Eye, Face and Body tracking and the Animal AF has been designed specifically to recognize dogs, cats and birds in flight. “I managed to focus on my black labrador’s eye, even when it was coming towards me,” reveals David Parry, Canon UK’s product intelligence specialist.
