Here’s a fun trick to create vortex-like patterns with a smoke image and a keyboard shortcut

Open a smoke image (we’ve supplied several suitable images if you don’t have any), then use the Lasso Tool to select an interesting part. Press Cmd/ Ctrl+J to copy to a new layer, then go to Image > Canvas size and expand the canvas to give yourself more room. Highlight the bottom layer, go to Edit > Fill and choose Use: Black.
