Left: The Queen became the first reigning monarch to travel on the Tube when she opened the Victoria Line on March 7, 1969 – buying her own ticket and boarding at Green Park, the nearest stop to Buckingham Palace. She drove the train from Green Park to Oxford Circus, then returned ‘on the cushions’ to Green Park.
