New contracts awarded to Avanti West Coast and CrossCountry
Government signs up the Avanti joint venture for a further three years, and Arriva for another four.

OFFICIALS at the Department forTransport have agreed new contracts with AvantiWest Coast (a joint venture between FirstGroup andTrenitalia) and CrossCountry (operated by Arriva) that come into effect from October 15.
For Avanti, a new National Rail Contract will have a core term of three years, with a potential extension of up to six years until 2032. After the threeyear break point, theTransport Secretary can terminate the contract at any point with three months’notice.
