You can’t really go wrong with any of the
Burnout
games on the PS2, but the third time really is the charm when it comes to this arcade racing series. The first two games depict spectacular crashes, but ideally you don’t want to see those because they mean you’ve messed up. Burnout 3: Takedown encourages you to cause crashes by ramming your rivals into walls, nudging them into oncoming traffic and generally being hostile.
The game’s cars and excellently designed tracks are graphically detailed but it maintains smooth 60fps performance, which we’re thankful for because with aggressive adversaries constantly on your tail, you really need every split second of reaction time. There’s also a great licensed soundtrack to drive to, taking in names such as Franz Ferdinand, Jimmy Eat World, My Chemical Romance and Rise Against.
